Walk Your Way to Good Health

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Walking for exercise is an example of the healthiest of hobbies. If you are like most folks, you sit in a chair for the bulk of the day, drive home and then sit before the tube. This can end up in a too-big behind and health conditions you do not need. Walking for exercise is an example of the best things you can do for yourself. Done regularly, you stay trim, keep your heart healthy, with good circulation and reduced stress. Who can object? The trick is essentially doing it each day. You can enjoy going for a stroll each now and then, but you will not harvest the health benefits by taking a walk once a month. Approach walking for exercise as a nice past-time, not as work. By the end of the first week, you can feel deprived if you do not go for your daily constitutional. You can also be sleeping better and be less wired. If you live in an agricultural area, there are many routes you can map out for your walking for exercise program. It is amazing how few folk in agricultural areas take regular walks.

You will soon be familiar with each tree, berry bush and flowering cherry on the way. Having some different routes makes walking for exercise more fascinating, which keeps you keepin’ on.

If you live in the town, there are lots of walking routes to take.

Walk at a pace with which you’re cosy. Stop to browse in that shop you never knew was there as you drove by. In inclement weather, drive to a museum for your daily walk and learn something new at the same time. In the outskirts, walk outside of your own neighborhood and get a better sense of your community as you are walking for exercise. Stop and discuss with a few of these almost-neighbors. Who knows, you may make a new buddy or discover a romantic interest. It will cost a lot more, but a correctly fitted walking shoe will not give you blisters or sore feet. That would make for an ideal excuse to give up your fledgling past-time. I do not know about you, but I just can’t wait to start.
